What TO DO IF......... THERE IS AN EMERGENCY!?

The following are guidelines in the event of certain emergencies:-

If there is a Sniper Firing Incident!
  • Drop to the ground immediately. If within a short distance of a safe place of cover, duck and run to it.
  • Move or crawl away from gunfire, trying to utilize any obstructions between you and the gunfire.
  • Hide yourself from expose and take shelter behind a building and stay down. Don’t make any noise.
  • Do not peek or raise your head in an effort to see what may be happening.
  • Do not come out of hiding place until you are sure the sniper has left the scene.
  • Contact Law enforcing authorities if you have Cell telephone.
  • If you are wounded try not to panic and try first aid techniques on yourself.

If you receive a Bomb Threat!
  • Stay calm, and listen.
  • Try to obtain as much information as possible. Try to get the caller to be precise about the location and timing of the alleged bomb and try to establish whom they represent. If they are inclined to talk, keep them talking.
  • If you have a recording facility, ensure that it is switched on.
  • Try to signal a co-worker to listen on the telephone line, if possible.
  • Write down the information. Listen for background noises. Listen closely to the voice for accents, speech impediments or age indications.
  • Immediately inform the designated responsible person, who should decide the appropriate response. Remember not to use two-way radios as they may detonate a device.
  • Call Police to evaluate information received and decide upon a course of action.

If you see a Suspicious Package!

A suspicious-looking box, package, object or container in or near your work area, it may be a bomb or explosive material -
  • Do not handle, touch or disturb the suspicious object.
  • Do not operate any power switch or activate emergency alarm.
  • Do not use radios or cell phones as these may activate some types of bombs.
  • Isolate the suspicious object and move away a minimum of 300-500 feet from the risk area to a safe location.
  • Call immediately bomb disposal Unit or notify the Law Enforcement Agency.
If you see a Suspicious Package!

If there is an Explosion!

  • Immediately take cover under sturdy furniture or other such objects that will give protection against flying glass and debris.
  • When the effects of the explosion have subsided, call Law Enforcement Agency.
  • Try to establish what exploded, the extent of the damage and possible life-threatening hazards to determine your next course of action.
  • Take immediate action to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
  • Evacuate from the building if necessary and safe to do so; otherwise, remain in your place of cover.
  • Exit via stairway only, DO NOT USE ELEVATORS.
  • Move well away at least 150 feet from the site of the hazard to a safe location; go to an area upwind from the explosion site to avoid possible toxic fumes.
  • DO NOT RE-ENTER THE BUILDING until instructed to do so by the properly identified emergency personnel.
If you discover a fire in a building!

  • Alert the occupants by activating the emergency alarms or shout fire, fire..
  • Telephone Fire Rescue Service and guide them properly to the location of fire.
  • Contain/Confine the fire to the room where there is an actual fire by closing the doors and window to prevent the spread of fire and smoke into unaffected spaces.
  • Turn off all electrical and gas equipment (fans & blowers that may spread the fire).
  • Try to extinguish fire with a appropriate Fire Extinguisher, if it is safe to do so, you may fight small fire and contain with fire extinguisher.
  • Immediately exit the building, using the stairs and closing the doors – DO NOT USE ELEVATORS.
  • During an evacuation test doors before opening. Use the back of your hand to feel the door or doorknob. If it is hot, use another escape route.
  • Once outside, move to an open area at least 150 feet away from the building at risk.
  • Keep roadways and walkways clear for emergency vehicles and responders.
  • DO NOT RE-ENTER THE BUILDING UNTIL INSTRUCTED TO DO SO by the Fire Service Officials.
